Don't Look Back!
I know in the last blog I wrote, I talked about moving FORWARD. Lately, I feel like that's been something God is trying to teach me to do, and who knows…he might be wanting to teach you too!
My dad shared this with me a few weeks ago; it was about a man named Lot and his family. In Genesis chapters 18 and 19, this story is about the 2 cities called Sodom and Gomorrah. These cities were both living in deep sin, and because of that, they were going to be destroyed. Before God destroys it, he makes sure to spare Lot's family's life, just like he had told Abraham he would do. So the two angels that were there took Lot and his family outside the city. The angels told Lot, "Flee for your lives! Don't look back and don't stop anywhere in the plain! Flee to the mountains or you will be swept away!" By the time the Lord had destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah…Lot's wife became a pillar of salt. Why did she turn into salt? The angels specifically instructed them to NOT LOOK BACK.
The moral of what my dad was saying was that we can't be in a constant state of looking back. God was taking them away from the mess and placing them in a better place. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, "Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a NEW creation; old things have passed away; behold, ALL THINGS have become NEW." We are made NEW. Those past mistakes and all the wrong that we did doesn't matter anymore. The hurtful relationships and trauma no longer exist. We should NOT be looking back anymore because there's nothing good for us there. What matters is what is ahead. The person we once were is not who we are today.
The more we look back, the fewer opportunities we will have to see God at work and the many blessings he has for us. Sometimes we have to look forward and trust that whatever is in front of us will be good and better. If we stay looking back, we will never get to the place that God wants us to be at.
