I Will Choose...

"...and he has identified us as HIS OWN by placing the Holy Spirit in our hearts as the first installment that guarantees everything he has promised."

                                                                                                 2 Corinthians 1:22 (NIV)

There's a book called "I Said This, You Heard That." In this book, it brushes up on the 4 types of personalities each person can have. I learned about my character and found out the strengths and weaknesses associated with it. At the end of the chapter, it had a little exercise that looked like this…" I have a tendency to be ________, but I will choose to be ________. " I picked a few weaknesses of mine that I'm struggling with...this was my end result. I have a tendency to have a low self-esteem and remember the negative, but I WILL CHOOSE to be emotionally secure. This book associated this exercise with a verse that could help us believe it more and have more meaning towards it.

Reading this verse, I was completely blown away. I can be emotionally secure in God. Pondering the negative and dealing with insecurities will all go away when I keep my eyes on him. I can choose to be emotionally secure because, in his word, it says that he has identified me as HIS OWN!!! Another verse that I found hanging on my mirror for the longest time was Genesis 1:31"God is pleased with how he made me." God put so much thought and detail when he made you and me that he sees NO FLAW; he sees us BLAMELESS, WORTHY, LOVED. I mean, really, what could be better than that! You may have tendencies to be sarcastic, rude, jealous, critical, an overthinker, or a perfectionist...but you can choose to be something better through Him. We all have a choice in this life, and I believe it's a good thing to find who we truly are in God.

I encourage you to do what I did and think about this exercise. When you start to become unloving with words, overthink a situation, or beat yourself down because you compare… speak it out loud, and whisper truth to yourself wherever you may be. I promise you that those tendencies you thought you had will soon be overridden with the truth that comes from God himself.

What are your tendencies, and what will YOU CHOOSE to be?
