Be Still...
Be Still... When you hear the words “Be Still”...what goes through your head? I can tell you that when I hear those words, my mind just seems to go 1000 miles per hour. Yesterday was a very overwhelming day for me at school. I kinda just felt like my professor just threw a million chapters in 4 hours and I couldn’t keep up. It’s been a roller coaster of emotions for me and yesterday was just one of those days where I felt like breaking down. It‘s in these moments where I’m brought back to being still. There’s a song by Amanda Cook called “Still”. In this song it says “So I will be still, and know that you are, know that you are God. It’s hard letting God be God. In the midst of whatever maybe overwhelming you, God says “My child, be still”. God doesn’t want you to worry about anything. The next words of the song are, “If you are with me what can overwhelm me?”. It definitely takes a lot to just sit and wait on God...especially when there’s a million things we need to do. The only thing you gain by trying to figure it out and worry is literal STRESS! You do more harm than good.
Sometimes we just forget to breathe and stop everything we are doing and just sit and take in life for what it is. The beauty in this is that while things can be going crazy, God is there to reassure us that he’s got us! Let your mind sit on the amazing promises that God has for you. There’s always going to be a light at the end of the tunnel. “You know everything, yet you listen through my anxious thoughts with compassion, one by one they fall into perfect peace.” Let him take the reins of your life and know that you can give him your fears, worries and burdens and he will give you rest. Matthew 11:28 says “Come to me all who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest.” Find that longing peace that God wants you to feel every time you feel like it’s become too much. It’s okay to sometimes just sit and listen to God. He loves it when you pray to him but sometimes God also just wants you to open your heart and listen to him. There’s a season for everything and maybe for you today, you might be in a season where you need to learn to let God be God and be still. I can tell you that you’re going to be okay, it might be hard, but I can promise you that you will come to find that relying on God is one of the best decisions you could ever make.
